Brian Cushing's detention a bit late, Jr. was "exactly" sleeping, and the Redskins looking to add years to the backfield again
By: Travis Williams
Thought #1 The AP will revote Wednesday for the defensive rookie of the year following the release of Brian Cushing's positive test for performance enhancing drugs. Cushing, who ran away with the award in January, will now face the possibility of losing the award, along with being suspended without pay until October 4.
Is just me or is this a little like your high school English teacher coming up to you during your freshman year of college and trying to bust you for reading the cliff notes to Hamlet instead of actually reading the work? Isn't this kind of like her trying to strip you of your diploma and send you to detention for cutting that corner about a year after she should have caught you in the act?
Now granted there is a lengthy appeals process, which can play the roll of the scapegoat for a bit, but if this was such a big deal in September why let him keep playing?
Listen NFL, you can complain that he cheated, that he cut corners and had an edge, but regardless you let him play. You knew about it and yet let him go out there week after week and have an impact, not only on himself and his team, but on other teams as well. Now suddenly when the news breaks he was positive you want to slap him on the wrist, suspend him, and have the press drop his grade?
You didn't stop the cheating when it was going on, when it might have had an impact, and when it might have made a difference. Why crack down now?
Thought #2Ken Griffey Jr. responded to the report that he was found asleep in the clubhouse on Saturday and missed a pinch hitting opportunity. Griffey stated that he is "available all the time," and that parts of the story just weren't exactly correct, yet did not completely deny the mid-game nap.
Now, we've all done this before; you don't want to lie but you can't exactly tell the truth right? So you throw out the, "that's not exactly true," line. Was it a team licensed snuggie or just a plain blue one? Was he still rocking his spikes at the time, or had he already down graded to flops and socks? And was Jr. leaned back in a chair or was he full on spread out on the team couch?
These are the "exactly true" type of details we must be missing out on, or at least that's the way you make it sound when you don't straight up deny hitting the rack during the 5th.
Thought #3I guess if you can't get one really awesome brand new car, having about 3 or 4 nice used ones would be the next best thing.
That must be what Washington is thinking concerning it's running back situation for this upcoming season.
Reportly the Redskins will meet with former Eagles back Brian Westbrook Wednesday and consider adding him to a back field that already includes Clinton Portis, Willie Parker, and Larry Johnson.
Now just having one of those guys, probably isn't going to be enough. Let's be honest, even Portis has issues when it comes to built up mileage, and all four have spent plenty of time watching from the sideline and rocking an ice wrap. Tie yourself down to just one ride, and you'll be dropping coin for spare parts and lube before November.
Put them together though, split the trips to the grocery store with the weekend ventures to the lake, and suddenly you can make it through the year without being left on the side of the road. Suddenly the miles are little lighter and lifespan of each ride might just be dependable enough to make it into the winter and still have some trend on the tires for those rough weekend outings.
