If I was a New York Knicks fan, I would really hope my team wasn't just walking me down the toy aisle again, letting me point to exactly the birthday presents I want, and then showing up at my party with a pair socks and a random cat puzzle.

With the season set to kick off in just a few days the Knicks are reportedly still in pursuit of a potential trade to bring the small forward from Denver to the Big Apple. After years of disapointed and a summer of wondering how good a LeBron James or Chris Bosh jersey might look on them, are Knicks fans just setting themselves up for another let down?

According to the New York Post, Carmelo all but has his bags packed for New York and has even recruited long-time season ticket holder Spike Lee to help motivate Donnie Walsh and company to make a move. Walsh has attempted to put together deals including Anthony Randolph and Danilo Gallinari, along with Eddy Curry expiring contract recently in hopes of gaining Carmelo, but it has yet to be enough to convince Denver to make the move.

In a way Knicks fan's most desired birthday present this time is like a puppy. A puppy just begging to come home with you, play fetch, and playfully chew on your favorite shoes. The question is; will Walsh be willing to fork over enough to cover the cost of premium puppy chow and one of those sweet igloo dog houses? If not this could just be another disappointing party for Knicks fan, sitting in a corner and quietly putting together that Eddy Curry puzzle.
