Princess for a night in Cleveland and other Saturday thoughts.
The Streak is Over!
Every little girl deserves to know what it feels like to be treated like a princess for a night and every NBA player deserves to know what it feels like to not go home and pound shots of Jager while attempting to wash away feeling like a loser with a four-hour DC Universe binge.

Friday night the Cleveland Cavaliers finally got to have that night, picking up a victory for the first time since the middle of December. The Cavs defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 126-119 and ended their streak of 26-straight losses.

That's right, LeBron who?

The real question then became; how exactly to you act after a win?

Do the Cavs act like a hobo who scratches a winning lotto ticket, flips out, and then squanders his winnings on cotton candy and dirty magazines? Or do they treat it more like a person with some earning experience, carefully investing it and using it as a stepping stone for future progress? Will they treat this as their one shining moment and go all out like the future high school drop out who takes the limo to eighth grade dance or will they celebrate the good, analyze the bad, and grow from the experience?

Only time will tell.

Sunday they should have a grand opportunity to take the second options, as the winless-on-the-road Washington Wizard come to town. Two in a row, who would have thought it?

What the Cavaliers do with this new found success is up to them. All we can say for now is that for one night, they got to know what it feels like to be a princess and kids in Cleveland got to re-learn what the letter W means.

Bonds' charges dropped
Friday Barry Bonds' felony charges were dropped from 11 to five, with all six of charges dropped being charges that involved personal trainer Greg Anderson, who refuses to testify. Because of the revisions, Bonds will again be allowed to respond to the charges at his arraignment on March 1 and is expected to plea not-guilty.

Really though, why wouldn't he? So far he has successfully called the feds bluff on this one. They want to take him to task for lying to them, which popular opinion would all but completely agree he did, but Barry knows they won't get it to stick.

Even if they did at this point, the typical sentence for the first offense of his charges is around 15 months of jail time.

We will have to wait a while longer for the answer to the many questions of how this situation will pan out, but one this is certain; way too many funds are being used to prove Bonds a liar. Yeah, I get that lying is bad and lying to a grand jury is even worse. But can you really tell me you think its worth all this time, money, and effort?

I know we are really, really good at throwing away government money. I mean the space exploration programs? Really, how much are we dumping into finding far off galaxies? "Yeah, we got babies starving here, but whatever, we just found a new star for those infomercial guys to sell the naming rights to. Hooray for us."

I know that stuff goes on at every level, but this mess with Bonds just seems like a lot of money going up in flames without producing any positive result. Guilty or innocent, I really don't see any good coming from this whole deal.

Malone speaks
Karl Malone gave his thoughts on the Jerry Sloan situation Friday night and while what he said really wasn't all that earth shattering, it did remind me of how much Karl Malone is really a middle-aged white truck driver living in the body of an African-American NBA player. (I've seen Vice Versa I know this is possible.)

The only two things I could really think about as he was speaking were, "is he wearing Shape-Ups right now," and "didn't this guy once buy a tractor-trailer and then paint a mural of himself as a cowboy on the side of it?"

The answer to both of those questions is yes by the way.
